DETAILS Who doesnÂ't love chocolate? You will certainly love this chocolate colored orchid, a 1965 a hybrid of Cattleya guttata and Cattleya aurantiaca . The three-inch flowers are in shades of mahogany and dark red with a yellow throat that fuses into the deep mahogany. Flowers are about three inches (8 cm) across, and mature plants can have as many as a dozen blooms per spike. Under the right conditions it can bloom twice a year, spring and fall. Apparently orchid judges also love chocolate as this orchid has received numerous awards from the American Orchid Society: The Certificate of Cultural Merit in 1984, 1990, 1992 and 2001; and the Award of Merit in 1981. One of these award-winning plants was noted to have 540 flowers and 66 buds on a plant 43 inches (110 cm) wide and 35 inches (90cm) high!
